I have been building clubs since 2004 and until recently, I really did not know the answer to this question. According to research and an Ai Search, this is what I discovered:

To achieve a noticeable "trampoline effect" on your driver head, you generally need a swing speed of around 105 mph or higher; this is because most standard drivers are designed to maximize their spring effect within that speed range, allowing for greater ball velocity and distance.

If you have a lower swing speed (like most of us) you can gain yards by going with an oversized head which stretches the volume up to 515cc to gain more trampoline effect as the face may be thinner. Or, Krank Golf, with their genius engineered Formula Fire drivers offer three different face thickness to match the players swing speed. Pro for drives over 260 yards (LPGA Legal), X High Core for drives 200-260 yards, and XX Super High Core for drives 200 yards or less.

Keep in mind that LPGA limits the driver head volume to 460cc, plus a tolerance of 10cc, so drivers in the "Illegal Equipment" section on my site, or some Krank drivers are not going to be legal for official an some non-official tournaments. But, if you are just looking to gain some distance, why not?!

Excellent communication to make sure I was getting what I wanted and that it would be set up correctly. I went with the Apollo Shadow 62g Graphite Shaft, and Lamkin Crossline 3gen oversize grips. The quality of the build was remarkable, everything lined up and finished in a precise manner. Getting used to the single length clubs is a little strange at first, I had more issues with the longer clubs rather than the shorter ones. Now I am getting some reps in things are falling into place. I would recommend Ron's Clubs to anyone needing or wanting clubs!

Posted by Steve on 12th Jul 2019

I stopped golfing 12 years ago mostly due to back issues I was having. I got back in to it and was playing a very old set of standard irons. My score was awful and I just couldn't find my swing. Ron suggested I consider these clubs for two reasons. 1-the single length should give me some relief from any back issues and 2-the hybrid design would help my game as they are a more forgiving club. He could not have been more right! It took me a couple of rounds to get over the visual difference in hitting these irons but once I got used to them, oh my! I went from a score in the high 60's to the mid 40's. I have zero back issues as my swing position is the same for every club, and my confidence level in hitting a good shot has grown by leaps and bounds. Thanks Ron!

Posted by Steve on 12th Jul 2019

I got back in to golf after a 12 year absence and my scores were horrible. I was using old clubs. Ron walked me through various options after hearing about my wicked hook. He recommended this club because it is very forgiving. This driver has made me feel much more confident when I am on the tee. The distance and accuracy I get with this driver are unbelievable. Every round I get several of "that one shot that keeps me playing". Build quality is fantastic and the attention and service from Ron was unmatched by any retailer. I have only had one person in my duffer league joke about the "illegal club". I highly recommend this club!

The following is a very detailed review that my customer, Andrio, took the time to write so I wanted to share as there has been a great interest in the Pinhawks:

OK, finally got to the range to test the irons themselves. Took a couple of shots with the SW to get accustomed to the length and ball position and find something that felt right. After this, I started hitting balls with different clubs using the exact same ball position etc. just to see what the ball flight/trajectory looks like. Firstly, I can confirm that these irons don't all go the same distance, the distance spread seem fine between irons, unfortunately I only hit down to my 6 iron, but will take the 5 along next time. The gaps are around 10 to 15 yards, depending on the loft (I know I shouldn't but I still try to swing harder with the lower lofts). The biggest difference between them and my old fly-z irons is the trajectory. the Pinhawks have a more noticeable difference between each club on the ball flight, more in line with what I would expect from the loft, it felt like there was consistency in the flight. My fly-z's have a more inconsistent ball flight depending on where you strike it on the face. I think this is because the material used on the Pinhawks irons are the same (no high COR faces) and everything else from the shafts, head weight and offset is exactly the same. These are not distance irons, but I would rather describe them as accurate, easy, forgiving mid/high handicap cavity back, cast "players" irons. The "players" part is only inserted because of the more consistent ball flight compared to other distance irons. The reduced offset is the main bonus for me, as my usual shot shape is a draw, and this got out of hand with the fly-z's in the lower lofts that had huge offset. The Pinhawks kept the draw manageable when I got down to the lower lofts. I compared the distances with the fly-z's, and comparing loft for loft, my 7 iron of my Pinhawk is 35 degrees (the same as the 8 iron of my fly-z) and between these the yardage is similar! the Pinhawk is 36.5" and the fly-z 36.75" long, so comparable length. This makes me think that the marketing hype of distance irons is fake and it's only the number stamped on the bottom of the iron that makes you think you have suddenly gained yardage.

Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase and the irons get a 5 star. I can't wait to get 100% accustomed to them as I'm sure they will improve my iron play.

Regards
